BANK ROBBERY AT WACHOVIA this morning

The Wachovia at Shore Drive & Great Neck Road.
[No additional info was available from 385.5000 call as of the time date of this post.]
According to Pilotonline.com as of ~12pm the armed robber is not apprehended.

Anyone with information was being asked to call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887).

From Cape Story Neighborhood Watch:

“I just wanted to share that there was an apparent bank robbery in our area and that the police are out on the bike path, in the neighborhood and in the air looking for a white male with a black back pack.  The police came to our door asking to lock all doors and report any activity.  Thought I would share.”

My husband went to the shopping center and confirmed there was a robbery at the Great Neck and Shore Drive Wachovia Bank this morning (Fri, Jan 8).  An officer stated that the robber was about 5"4" but he was unable to provide a better description because the robber was wearing a mask.  The police are not sure if the robber escaped via foot or in a vehicle.  In the interest of safety I would urge everyone be on special lookout for suspicious persons and lock your doors, windows and garages.

If anyone saw anything suspicious, please call the police.

These are the only details I have at this time but will provide any additional info if and when received.

Please remember to call 911 if you see a crime in action and call 385-5000, option 1, to report crimes after they have occurred or to report any suspicious activity.

Home invasion in the Reserve on Great Neck Road

From Cape Henry Shores Neighborhood Watch:

The following home invasion occurred in the Reserve neighborhood off Great Neck Rd. I am sending this as a reminder to please keep your doors locked and do not open them unless you know who is outside.  This was very close to our neighborhood and it is very scary that it happened while still daylight.  The article was taken from the Virginian Pilot website.

“A child called 911 on Friday as his family’s residence was invaded by three armed men. Police who went to the home arrested one suspect and are looking for the other two men. The home invasion happened at 5:39 p.m. at a residence in the 1500 block of Mirassou Lane. A man who lives there had gone out to run errands, said Officer Margie Hobbs, a Police Department spokeswoman. His wife and three children were home. The woman came to the door when the doorbell rang, and three men forced their way in and brandished a gun, Hobbs said. A child upstairs called 911. The three men then made the family get in a closet while they ransacked the house and ran when they heard police sirens. Police arrested one man nearby on Burton Drive. The other two are described as black, ages 17 to 25, both with a thin build and wearing black clothing, Hobbs said. Police used a reverse 911 system to notify neighbors about the home invasion, she said. Police did not release the age of the child who made the phone call”.

Anyone with information may call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887).

Laptop stolen in Cape Henry Shores

From Cape Henry Shores Neighborhood Watch:

The following was received by our neighbor in the 2100 block of East Kendall, who was the victim of the break-in Monday night.

“The police came over again today and the officer had stated that there was another laptop theft around here on that Monday as well.  day. The person simply came in the unlocked door, grabbed the laptop and stole it.  Again, the people were home when this occurred.  I don’t know any further details other than the house was on Shore Dr. around here, but the police are definitely pursuing this as it’s a bit alarming that someone is doing this.”

Clearly, we have to lock our doors/windows, even when you are at home.  And if you have important info on your laptop, back it up!

If anyone has more info on the other stolen laptop, please forward the info so we can get it out to the community.

I received this email late last night from a neighbor in the 2100 Block of East Kendall

“Wanted to send this along to you so that you can alert the rest of the neighbors.  This evening at around 11:30’ish pm (approx timeframe) someone broke into our house while we were here.  A window screen was sliced, and the person entered our house through the window.  We believe the dogs might’ve scared the person(s) off, but we did have a lap-top stolen.  The police came out and we filed a police report. We have no other information, but just wanted to raise awareness.”

Teach kids about bike safety, please

From Cape Story Neighborhood Watch:

“Dear Neighborhood Watch,
I understand that our children really need a place to play and
ride their bikes.  However I am very worried that we may have a repeat
bike accident as we had on Beech about a year ago.  I need for everyone to know
that there are some very young children about ages 4-7 riding their bikes in an unsafe way
without supervision on Beech St.  On Saturday one of these children about age 4 or 5 years old steered their
bike in front of my moving car. I had to slam on the brakes. Then he stayed
there daring me to move forward. I am really very worried that someone else
may not see them or stop.  So parents would you please watch your very
young children when they are out on the street and give them instruction on bike riding safety?
I am sure we can work together to make this a safer neighborhood for everyone.
Thanks, A concerned resident.”

Neighborhood Watch update from last night’s Cape Story Civic League Mtg

From their Neighborhood Watch:

For those who missed last night’s Civic Association Meeting, Detective Dewberry of the 2nd Precinct gave a very informative talk about the crimes in our neighborhood over Labor Day weekend.  Several juveniles have been arrested, 2 from our neighborhood, and have admitted to three house break ins, mailbox vandalism and car window breakage.  They teamed up with juveniles from other neighborhoods and went on a spree including stealing beer from a 7-11 and stealing baseball bats from Cox High School.  The parents were very cooperative.  The new house on Maple St. sustained approximately $20,000 - $30,000 damage and the other had various items stolen which will likely be recovered.  If any crimes from Sept 5 have not been reported, please contact Det. Dewberry at 385-2700.  You can also contact Det. Dewberry for questions pertaining to the crimes in our neighborhood.  Our Crime Prevention Officer, MPO Helen Gillespie was also present and talked to us about solicitors.  She showed us a solicitors permit and will send us a copy for insertion in the Skipjack.

Several house & vehicle breakins in Cape Story Saturday night

From Cape Story Neighborhood Watch:

We have received several reports of incidents that happened last night (Sat) on Maple St. besides the two car rear windows on Sandalwood Rd that was reported earlier today.  At least 2 houses were broken into, one on Maple St. between Shore Dr. and the bike path and the other on Maple St. near Poinciana. Both homes were severely vandalized and in one case property was taken from the house.  There are also 2 other houses that the police suspect may have been broken into but have been unable to contact the owners.  At least 3 cars were gone through and ransacked but no reports of anything stolen.  Additionally, at least 3 mailboxes were vandalized.  One of those was the second occurrence in the past few weeks.  I spoke to a police officer who is investigating these problems and he asked that I remind everyone to please keep everything locked (cars and houses).  The officer indicated they are going to increase patrols in our area and request that if you were a victim of any of these type incidents last night to please call to report it.  In each case of vandalism, property was destroyed and glass items were broken which should have made some loud noises. If you happened to hear or saw anything that might help the police please call them.

Slow down - from Cape Story neighborwood watch

From Cape Story neighborhood watch:

Tonight [7.13.09] in-between rain showers I was out on Beech st. with my 4 yr. old son enjoying him running, splashing, bike riding, etc… in the big puddles the 20 min. or so that they were around when a jeep approached at with gaining speed.  I live a couple of houses past the bike path if your coming off of shore drive.  The vehicle was a white jeep, relatively new, with a virginia lic. # XSH-2745 (maybe 4527) and the driver was a young adult male to an older teen.  The driver was gaining speed and that about half way between shore and the bike path, I began walking out in the street waving my hand up and down at him yelling “slow down!” as the spray from puddles flew over his car.  He flew through the bike path intersection and I think for a sec. or two he thought about maybe trying to spray me as he went past.  I was not going to move from the street and he quickly slowed down and passed me without looking at me, I continued to yell “slow down!” to him.  After passing me, he picked up speed again and sped off to the end of the street.  My son was off to the side in a driveway and out of the way.  I did not have my “slow, children playing” sign out but I do not think it would have been much of a deterent either.

Innocent fun could have turned into a tragic accident quickly and unneccessary.

I hope someone knows this individual and will pass on to them that this type of behavior will not be tolerated.
