House break in last night in 2700 block of Ocean Shore Ave

From Cape Story Neighborhood Watch:

On Friday morning, June 11 at 3:00 a.m., a house in the 2700 block of Ocean Shore Ave was burglarized.  A white male, approx. 5’10 - 6’, thin build, dark hair, suntanned, wearing dark shorts and no shirt removed the electric meter from the box and cut cable and telephone wires from the side of the house, then went to the back of the house and broke a window to gain access.  Two flower pots on the inside window ledge fell on the floor which woke the owner.  When the burglar saw the owner, he ran and did not enter the house.  A police report was filed and the electric meter was not found.  If anyone has any information, or finds the electric meter (don’t touch, it may have fingerprints), please call the police.

Please remember to call 911 if you see a crime in action and call 385-5000, option 1, to report crimes after they have occurred or to report any suspicious activity.

Nice bike stolen and traded for junky bike at Maple Street

From Cape Story’s Neighborhood Watch:

The following was received from a resident who lives on Maple St.
“On Monday afternoon about 3:00 pm my Bicycle was stolen from the beach entrance at Ocean Shore Ave and Maple Street. Unfortunately, I didn’t have it locked to anything. I was just walking down to the beach for a few minutes and poof it was gone when I got back. The culprit did however leave me their (very junky) bike. It was in the place where mine was and where he tossed my shoes off (I had my shoes hanging off the handle bars).  I just bought it March 21 and never got around to jotting down the serial number on it, so, I have nothing to show for it except the owner’s manual and the purchase sticker the store gave me when I bought it. It was a baby Blue Schwinn Mountain Bike.  Please call Susan on 496-0627 if you have any information.”

Please remember to call 911 if you see a crime in action and call 385-5000, option 1, to report crimes after they have occurred or to report any suspicious activity.

Kids wandering around using Airsoft guns should be addressed

From Cape Henry Shores Neighborhood Watch:

“I received a couple of emails from concerned residents about kids walking in the neighborhood wearing hoods, goggles, and carrying Airsoft rifles.  For those that don’t know, Airsoft guns look very realistic and shoot tiny plastic “BBs”.  Everyone certainly knows they mean no harm, but it can be intimidating for some residents seeing them walking around the neighborhood.  While it is technically illegal to use Airsoft guns in the neighborhood, it might be wise to have them limited to backyards.  Of course, there is also always a fear that they will come across a police officer who has to quickly decide if the gun is real or a toy.”

BANK ROBBERY AT WACHOVIA this morning

The Wachovia at Shore Drive & Great Neck Road.
[No additional info was available from 385.5000 call as of the time date of this post.]
According to Pilotonline.com as of ~12pm the armed robber is not apprehended.

Anyone with information was being asked to call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887).

From Cape Story Neighborhood Watch:

“I just wanted to share that there was an apparent bank robbery in our area and that the police are out on the bike path, in the neighborhood and in the air looking for a white male with a black back pack.  The police came to our door asking to lock all doors and report any activity.  Thought I would share.”
My husband went to the shopping center and confirmed there was a robbery at the Great Neck and Shore Drive Wachovia Bank this morning (Fri, Jan 8).  An officer stated that the robber was about 5"4” but he was unable to provide a better description because the robber was wearing a mask.  The police are not sure if the robber escaped via foot or in a vehicle.  In the interest of safety I would urge everyone be on special lookout for suspicious persons and lock your doors, windows and garages.
If anyone saw anything suspicious, please call the police.
These are the only details I have at this time but will provide any additional info if and when received.

Please remember to call 911 if you see a crime in action and call 385-5000, option 1, to report crimes after they have occurred or to report any suspicious activity.

Home invasion in the Reserve on Great Neck Road

From Cape Henry Shores Neighborhood Watch:

The following home invasion occurred in the Reserve neighborhood off Great Neck Rd. I am sending this as a reminder to please keep your doors locked and do not open them unless you know who is outside.  This was very close to our neighborhood and it is very scary that it happened while still daylight.  The article was taken from the Virginian Pilot website.

“A child called 911 on Friday as his family’s residence was invaded by three armed men. Police who went to the home arrested one suspect and are looking for the other two men. The home invasion happened at 5:39 p.m. at a residence in the 1500 block of Mirassou Lane. A man who lives there had gone out to run errands, said Officer Margie Hobbs, a Police Department spokeswoman. His wife and three children were home. The woman came to the door when the doorbell rang, and three men forced their way in and brandished a gun, Hobbs said. A child upstairs called 911. The three men then made the family get in a closet while they ransacked the house and ran when they heard police sirens. Police arrested one man nearby on Burton Drive. The other two are described as black, ages 17 to 25, both with a thin build and wearing black clothing, Hobbs said. Police used a reverse 911 system to notify neighbors about the home invasion, she said. Police did not release the age of the child who made the phone call”.

Anyone with information may call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (562-5887).

Laptop stolen in Cape Henry Shores

From Cape Henry Shores Neighborhood Watch:

The following was received by our neighbor in the 2100 block of East Kendall, who was the victim of the break-in Monday night.

“The police came over again today and the officer had stated that there was another laptop theft around here on that Monday as well.  day. The person simply came in the unlocked door, grabbed the laptop and stole it.  Again, the people were home when this occurred.  I don’t know any further details other than the house was on Shore Dr. around here, but the police are definitely pursuing this as it’s a bit alarming that someone is doing this.”

Clearly, we have to lock our doors/windows, even when you are at home.  And if you have important info on your laptop, back it up!

If anyone has more info on the other stolen laptop, please forward the info so we can get it out to the community.
