“Non-event” still not covered by local media, barge strike repairing crane photos
Great to know our local media still apparently believes the barge strike on the Lesner Bridge isn’t worth covering.
Wonder if the tourists on the boat tell their friends back home about the crane fixing the damaged bridge.

I wrote a letter to the Pilot. Not sure if it has been printed. Suggest to all that they write on any of these issues.

EDITORIAL SENT TO THE VA PILOT (Mr. Dennis Hartig)w/ a VERY protracted explanation:
Concerned or Not to be Concerned...Dredging the Lynnhaven
Being informed one-third of your evacuation route from any given situation was being jeopardized, would you be concerned? Lesner Bridge (VDOT – Superstructure Poor Condition) is such a case. Public officials struggled years with finances and logistics to restore and maintain the Lynnhaven’s estuarial pristine qualities. City public works’ proposal, placing a permanent spoils transfer site within 300 yards of Lesner Bridge to operate ~3300 90-ton Phase I barges, has reached crescendo. Some City officials acknowledge risk, others defend this proposal; concerned citizenry fervently object; City Council’s position must be awkward to solve waterway issues, doing so in such fashion as to not alienate constituencies. One fundamental truth withstands all arguments; safety and survivability of the citizenry. A barge-bridge risk potential turns kinetic with uninformed decisions. USCG reports 6 incidents/10,000 transits or 2 in 3300. An unrelated bridge allision occurred 30 May 2008.
I Am Concerned,
