SDCC eNewsletter July 22, 2010

Did you Know? The Trust for Public Land may need your help to retain the maritime forest at the corner of Marlin Bay and Shore Drive.  Got an idea for “Did you know?”  Email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Another Double-Header at SDCC next Monday.  We will be privileged July 26 to have two separate branches of City Staff at our meeting.  Pleasure House Point details will be addressed by Deputy City Manager Susie Walston, Christy Everett from Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Lynda Frost of the Trust for Public Land and Barbara Duke for VB Parks & Recreation.  Stormwater management west of the Lesner will be the subject of Deputy City Manager Dave Hansen and his team of experts.  We remind you that these dedicated people are giving up personal time to make information available to you.  East of the Lesner, west of the Lesner, if you have questions, this may be your best chance to get your questions answered, and participate in the discussion about how to fund necessary upgrades in a down economy.

Shore Drive Improvements: BAC, SDCC and the City move forward:  At the last Bayfront Advisory Committee meeting, the Subcommittee on Public Safety, Transportation, Transit and Access assembled an array of City Staff to address safety improvements to Shore Drive.  Among the recommendations was a proposal to switch Phase IV (Marlin Bay to the west side of the Lesner), which is fully funded and due to start in 2014, with Phase III (east side of the Lesner to N. Great Neck), which is only funded to 30% Design.  The next meeting of the Subcommittee is scheduled for Aug. 17th, (details forthcoming.) The format dictates that the public is invited to observe, but not to comment.

In the interim, the City is accelerating traffic studies to review and evaluate conditions and possible improvements.  The City is to be credited with involving a spectrum of interested individuals. Shore Drive Community Coalition is participating in the City effort and monitors the BAC review.
