SDCC General Meeting Agenda - Monday February 25, 2008

SDCC General Meeting - Monday Feb 25, 2008
7:30 to 9:00pm
Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad Hall (parking in back, on side streets and across Shore Drive)

Presentation/Discussion on proposed botanical garden use for Pleasure House Point. A local resident has put together a proposed plan that shows a botanical garden, open-air stage and various other natural amenities on the PHP site.  The plan will be shown to members at this meeting.  SDCC would like to endorse this plan and present it to the City’s Open Space Sub-committee for action.  The Sub-committee has stated that they cannot recommend acquisition of this property to Council without a submitted usage plan.  We’re not sure why this is the case, but we want to eliminate any excuses not to pursue acquisition of the property.

The general agenda for the evening will be:
Presentation/Discussion - 20 Minutes

Officer’s Reports - Brief Reports
Secretary - Review last few months minutes - Tim
Treasurer’s Report - Leslie
Vice President & President - Daphne & Todd

Old Business-
Indigo Dunes Project - See discussion topic above.  PHP committee is also investigating the possibility of a land swap with commercial property at Corporate Landing.  Anyone interested in helping research and put together a proposal to submit to the City is asked to contact Todd Solomon at todd@sdcc.info

Marina Shores Marina Planned Development - 5 & 7 story commercial proposal was being shown at the recent VB Convention Center Boat Show.  The plan did not include a floating pier between the marina and Cape Henry Shores.  SDCC is still waiting to hear back from the developer’s attorney on a possible presentation date for one of our general meetings.

Lynnhaven River Proposed Spoils Transfer Station - Over 1000 signatures in opposition have been gathered.  Community reps spoke in opposition at the City Council Open Mike on Feb 5th.  SDCC submitted a letter of opposition to City Council and VMRC.  Councilman DeSteph requested Staff provide a formal briefing in front of the public.  The public hearing has been set for Wednesday March 19, 2008 at 6:30pm in Bayside Middle School.  Member groups are asked to have their residents send emails to City Council members expressing concern over the proposed permanent site.

City Marina Rezoning and Privatization Plan - Original 3 bids were officially rejected by City Council. SDCC has asked that a small team be created to allow public input to be gathered prior to the BZA hearing on the rezoning of the marina from P-1 to B-2.  SDCC is waiting on City Staff to set up the first team meeting.

Cape Henry Beach Sand Replenishment - SDCC reps contacted a few of the remaining groups that haven’t agreed to sign public easements.  No additional easements have been granted.  SDCC has sent a letter to City Council requesting they move ahead with a plan to implement the Cape Henry Beach Sand Replenishment resolution beginning with the next dredge cycle in 2009/2010.

New Business -
R5R Proposed Code Amendments – On Wed. March 12th, the Planning Commission will hear public comment and vote on proposed changes to limit the size of garages to 10% of lot size up to 1000 sq ft along with some voluntary incentives changes to R5R lots.  The meeting will be held at 12 noon in City Council chambers.  City Council will then hear and vote on this at their April 8th City Council Meeting.  Public input is highly encouraged.

SDCC Committee Participation - With the current number of issues that impact the Shore Drive area, we need more volunteers to help with SDCC committees.  A list of committees will be passed out at the general meeting and with the membership request forms.  Please sign up and pass the list out to your respective groups for additional volunteers.

2nd Annual Shore Drive Town Hall Meeting - Last year’s event held in April was attended by over 250 residents.  The main topics of discussion were Indigo Dunes and Shore Drive Safety.  Should we plan to hold another event this year and if so, what should be the main topics?

2008 City Council Candidate Questionnaire/Forum - For the past 4 elections, SDCC has sent out a candidate questionnaire and held an informal forum prior to the City Council elections.  This year’s election will be held in November, so we have some time to plan.  Should the forum be kept small or should it be moved to a larger location?  Should SDCC partner with another forum?  Volunteers are needed to work on this committee.  If interested contact Todd Solomon at todd@sdcc.info

Fort Story Soldiers Return – Mark your calendar to support the troops returning sometime during the middle of March.  Watch your email for specific date and time.  Show you support by placing signs along Shore Drive and waving to the buses as they return.

SDCC Oyster Roast – Should the SDCC Oyster Roast make a return in 2008?  If so, when and where should it be held?  And most importantly, who will step forward and chair the event?
